Cortoon Lavally Playing Fields
After a long tenure and excellent service in their position, the previous trustees of Brownsgrove pitch stepped down and handed the baton over to a new group. John Rattigan, Cathal Melia, Enda Ansbro and Karen Joyce were identified by the trustees to take over. Once this group was established, they set to work on getting land ownership from the Department of Agriculture and then set up a Company Limited by Guarantee – hence the formation of Cortoon Lavally Community Playing Fields.
The group quickly acknowledged the scale of the task and reached out the community for additional members to the committee. A meeting was held with the community soliciting volunteers from a cross section of our community groups. Enda Cannon, Johanna Kelly, Hazel Hynes and Therese Matthews then joined the committee. The group has formed subcommittees for land acquisition & Development, Finance & Grant Aid, Fundraising/PR, Procurement & Construction and Governance.
The group had a vision to further develop Brownsgrove pitch seeking to acquire additional land in the area, unfortunately this was not possible. The search for additional land in our community continued, and fortuitously land in the centre of our community has been identified as a suitable area to build a State of the Art Community Sports & Recreational Facility (pending planning permission).
Community Engagement is key to the success of this project. The project is by no means limited to this group, we will reach out for additional help and expertise when required.
We aim to keep the community informed, and we will actively seek your input. We will share project goals, objectives and plans through this platform. We will seek feedback, and we aim to address any potential risks or concerns our community might have.
